Seven Months Old

Seven Months Old

Your Monthly Stats

**No doctor's appointment this month so I don't have accurate stats.  These are based on my measurements.

Height:  28 inches

Weight: 18 pounds

Head Circumference: 44 cm

Hair: Lately, everyone we know keeps commenting on how much more hair you've gotten.  It has come in thicker, and it's still so blond.  I'm sure as we're spending more and more time outside, it will be white by the summertime--just like Mommy's hair when she was little!

Eyes: Blue, Blue, Blue!

Diaper Size: Still in Size 3's, and you probably will be for a while.  That reminds me---I should probably buy some more before we run out!

Clothes:  You've stayed in the same size for a while now.  You've stretched out a lot, and I'm not sure if your legs have just gotten longer or if your pants shrunk.  Some of them look a little short.  When we were in Florida, you got to wear some of your cute summery outfits--shorts. onesies, and polos. But, mostly (as always), you were happiest wearing only a diaper.  Typical boy!

Eating:
This has been our biggest challenge this month.  As we crossed over from exclusively breastfeeding to introducing solid foods, we learned that it was not going to be an easy transition.  The day after you turned 6 months old, I started feeding you oatmeal.  I used steel-cut organic oats and ground them myself.  Then, I mixed them with a little bit of breastmilk.  Sometimes, I added a little bit of cinnamon to your oatmeal to give it some flavor.  You knew just what to do the first time we fed you.  You LOVED eating oatmeal!  After a few days, we introduced butternut squash, and you loved this too.  THEN, something happened!  You started refusing all solid food.  You make an awful face and spit it all back out.  We took a break from the food for a few days and then tried again.  After trying oatmeal in Florida, you got very sick and vomited all night.  Mommy was SO worried about you and cried A LOT. Luckily Aunt Ang was there to help.  The next day you felt better, and we took some more time off from the solid food.  Then, we tried some other foods--bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, and avocados.  You spit them all out.  When we got back from Florida, we tried a little more oatmeal.  After all--you loved it at one point in time.  A few hours after eating it, you became very sick vomiting again.  I took you to the doctor, and they ended up sending us to the E.R., because they were afraid you might become dehydrated.  In the E.R., you continued to get sick, and they gave you an IV drip with fluids.  Finally, you started feeling better.  The doctors really aren't sure what made you sick.  They thought it might be a virus, but we think it might be related to the oatmeal. That was 10 days ago, and we haven't tried anymore oatmeal.  We have tried to give you some other foods (fruits, vegetables, and rice cereal), but you continue to spit it all out.  So, we're taking a break.  Nutritionally, you're still getting everything that you need from nursing, and we're not stopping that anytime soon.  On that topic--Mommy and Daddy went away to Mexico for 5 days this month, and you stayed with Lulu and Pops.  You were a champ at taking the bottles filled with breastmilk, and you emptied out the freezer in the 5 days we were gone.  Luckily I pumped the whole time and brought back the milk.  So we still have a stash!  When we came home from our trip, you had no problems nursing again--Mommy worried for nothing!

Still a BIG drooler--and you can see those two little teeth!

Strength:
*You are officially ON THE MOVE.  This month, you started rolling like crazy.  If we turned around, you could roll yourself from one side of the room to the other in no time.  From there, you learned to sit yourself up from the lying down position.  Then, you started the army crawl.  You still prefer to roll versus crawling, but you usually do a mixture of both to get where you want to be.
*You're sitting up AND pulling yourself to stand in the crib.  We had to lower your crib mattress to the lowest level when we saw you doing this on the video monitor.  And, of course, you got your first big bump on the head (complete with a bruise) from standing in the crib and falling forward.  You give me a heart attack every time I see you upright in the crib.
*You are a jumping machine!  In the exersaucer, in the jumperoo, and in your little yellow car--you love to jump!  You had a lot of fun jumping with Evelyn in Florida!

Your favorite ab exercise:  the Pilates "100"

Likes:
*Snuggling with Mommy--This is something new...and I LOVE IT.  You have to be in the mood, but lately you have been a snuggler (especially when you're sleepy or upset about something).  Sometimes when we're in a big crowd, you get shy and like to snuggle in my neck too.
*Being tickled---You are ticklish on the bottoms of your feet, under your chin(s), and under your armpits.  It's so funny to see you giggle.  Most times you giggle without any sound, but if you're really being tickled--the giggles come out.  And, it is so darn cute!
*Swinging on the swings at the park--This is our new favorite thing to do.  You have a smile as soon as you see the swing, and you've never fussed to get off.  Sometimes you just throw your head back and feel the breeze.
*Walks in the stroller---We've been going on LOTS of walks.  The fresh air is good for both of us, and you usually take a nice nap on the way back home.
*Swimming in the pool---We did this for the first time in Florida, and I think you really liked it.  I see a whole summer in Lulu's pool in our future!  You're going to be a waterbaby, just like Mommy.

Dislikes:
*naps---You fight them until the very end....no matter how exhausted you are.  I just do NOT understand it.  Now that we're back home (not traveling), I'm trying to get us back into our routine of naps.  We were doing really well with them before we went away.  You sleep so much better at nighttime when you have good naps during the day too.
*being changed on the changing table---All of a sudden, you have decided that you HATE to have your diaper and clothes changed.  Sometimes I can distract you by giving you a toy or a wipe to play with, but other times you scream your head off protesting the whole process.  Usually I change your clothes sitting up now, because it is just easier that way.  I think you're just nosy and are afraid you'll miss out on something if you're laying down.
*being overtired-We still don't mess with bedtime.  You need to be in jammies and nursing by 7:30 every night.  Like clockwork, you start to show signs that you are sleepy by 7:00, and we know it's time.

Social Skills:
We continued to have lots of interaction with friends and family this month.  You are still a worldly traveler and made friends with all of the flight attendants on our trips to and from Florida.  The old folks in the Villages loved you too!

Sleep:
I'm afraid to say anything, but your nighttime sleep has improved lately.  You're still going to sleep around 7:30, and you wake once during the night to eat.  The past few nights it hasn't been until 4:00 or later.  So, you sleep from 7:30-4:00, nurse, and then usually go back to sleep for a couple more hours.  I'm happy with that, and I hope you keep it up!

 Dear Bubba,
What a busy month we have had!  It flew by (just like the 6 that came before it), and you're getting so big.  You are SO smart, and I love watching how you learn new things every day. You carefully observe everything around you and are quick to grab new toys or things that look fun to you.  Gone are the days of taking inappropriate things away from you without complaint.  You get PISSED when we take away things you aren't supposed to have.  I bought you your own "remote control" so that you won't grab the real one from us.  I'm sure that will still continue to happen, but you do really like yours!
This month we started lots of new activities where we have met new friends.  We joined a music class where we will go every Friday for the next 10 weeks.  In our class, we sing songs, dance, and play instruments with your teacher, Ms. Janet.  You LOVED our first class last week, and you spent most of the class with your mouth wide open, in awe of everything going on around you.  Your birthday buddy, Michael, is in our class too!  We also went to our first "Library Babies" class at the local school library.  We met some new friends, sang songs, and read a few stories.  We've also been to several new parks and gone for walks on the trail.  I love that I get to stay home and do all of these fun things with you.  Really, we don't actually "stay home" all that often.  We always have things to do and people to see!
This month was filled with traveling for both of us.  We took a vacation with Auntie Ang and Evelyn to Florida for a week.  You did great on the plane, and people kept telling us what great little travelers you were.  Then, Mommy and Daddy took a business trip to Mexico, and you stayed with Lulu and Pops for 5 days.  It was the hardest thing in the world to leave you, but I knew that you were in great hands with Lulu and Pops.  You had so much fun with them, and we were able to see you everyday we were gone by Facetiming you.  As hard as it was to be away from you, it was good for all of us.  You got to spend lots of time with your grandparents who love you SO much, and Mommy and Daddy got to spend quality time together (and catch up on sleep!).  I was SO excited to come home and squeeze you by the end of our trip.  I'm really happy to not have any plans to be away from you anytime soon, and I can't wait to have lots more fun together this month.  You are my sweet baby, and I love you so much.  XOXO

Love, Mommy
